Jessica Takakjian

Jessica Takakjian is an educator who has dedicated her career to helping students think critically, communicate authentically, and navigate important educational decisions with confidence. Drawing on experience as a public high school college counselor, university composition instructor, and professional editor, she brings a thoughtful, student-centered approach to every stage of the college admissions process.

As a public high school college counselor, Jessica guided students and families through every aspect of the college search and application process. And while she supported students whose goals ranged from beginning at a community college and transferring to a four-year school to gaining first-year admission to a top-tier public or private university, she developed a deep familiarity with the University of California system's distinctive admissions requirements and application. Her background as a composition instructor and editor informs her belief that compelling college applications begin with thoughtful reflection, intellectual curiosity, and an understanding of one's own experiences, values, and aspirations.

Jessica views college advising as an extension of education. She works collaboratively with students to identify colleges that align with their academic interests, personal goals, and family circumstances, and to help them develop compelling applications. She believes that there are many pathways to a fulfilling education and career, and that finding the right fit, academically, personally, and financially, is ultimately more important than pursuing a single destination.

Having guided her own three children through their undergraduate admissions and subsequent educational pursuits, including graduate, professional, and post-baccalaureate programs, Jessica also brings a parent's perspective to her work with families. She understands both the excitement and uncertainty that accompany these decisions and helps students and parents approach the process with thoughtful planning, realistic expectations, and confidence in the many pathways available to them.

Known for her thoughtful, individualized approach, Jessica enjoys building relationships with students and families. Her goal is not simply to help students navigate admissions, but to help them become more confident learners, writers, and decision-makers as they take the next step in their educational journeys.
